George was serving in the military at the time, and Faniely had just arrived in Australia on a student visa to learn English. What started as a last-minute, unexpected plan turned into their very first date. Eventually, Faniely had to return to Brazil to take care of her mum. Not long after, the world changed. COVID lockdowns kept them apart, and what followed were years of long distance—late-night calls, time zone juggling, and holding onto something they both knew was worth it.
